Master International Culture and Management
The Masters‘ Degree International Culture and Management is established as follow-up programme after the International Culture and Management Bachelor of Arts degree course. The wide range of areas of specialisation also makes it possible to integrate university graduates from other degree courses who have similar previous achievements.
Whilst you acquire the principles of Business Sciences and basic knowledge of the sector or region selected by you as a specialist area, the Masters‘ Degree lectures in the area of specialisation serve to deepen your knowledge and further build-up specific expert knowledge. You participate in a seminar for your chosen specialist area each semester where current topics, important new developments and specific problems are discussed and processed. International lecturers and lecturers from the industry as well as attendee numbers which are kept low ensure intense teamwork and high quality seminars.
When designing our seminars, we place a great value on interdisciplinarity and independent learning and researching by our participants so that they are prepared for the Masters‘ thesis in an optimum manner. In addition to the expert further training in your specialist area, you visit courses to help to activate and improve the foreign language skills deemed to make sense for your specialist area.
Tourism Event Hospitality Management
With the core subject Tourism Event Hospitality Management, you can further deepen your existing knowledge of the sector or establish new knowledge thereof. Current problems in Tourism, Event Management or Hotel Management are treated. You learn to develop innovative, successful and sustainable tourism concepts and to analyse their implementation.
Moreover, you focus on the current challenges and trends in the events sector with its uninterrupted growth which is offering more and more workplaces. You examine the structure of the global hotel industry which draws attention to itself using innovative business models and learn to understand the transformation of the guests’ reservation patterns. You also have the opportunity to become involved in tourism-relevant projects and to discuss the acquired technical knowledge with real life experts.
Media Management
This specialisation is interesting for all students who strive for a management career in the media or information and communication technology (ICT) sectors. You are prepared for work in Online Management, Social Management and Cross-Media Management as well as in Programme Management or Sales Management. By visiting seminars on advanced questions beyond those pertaining to Media and Entertainment Management, Online and Social Media Management and on strategic development of management competences regarding the Media and ICT sectors, you can specialise on topics and areas of application in Media Management during your industrial placement and the Master of Arts thesis.
The Media faculty still offers you practical experience you can gather in the area of media production, e.g. via cooperation with CBS TV or participation in applied media research projects. Support is also provided together with the CBS Entrepreneurship Chair and the Cologne university founders’ network (hgnc) if you found your own company in the Media or ICT area.
Management Consulting
For students interested in management consulting, CBS provides a specialized theoretical and practical guidance that enables a fast jump onto this attractive career path. Through applying strategic management theoretical approaches in case studies, students learn how to support client’s decision making process with professional advice. What is more, courses are built around aspects of methodology, tools and techniques commonly used by consultants in order to help a client business to uncover and fully exploit its potential. Special focus lies on giving advice to businesses that face the challenges of rapidly changing environment in the era of hypercompetition.
The main goal of this specialization is to exercise and strengthen the skills that students will need in the consulting business: analytical, project management and interpersonal skills. In-class case-based discussions and small team projects focus on client business situation analysis and problem solving tasks.
