U2B - University2Business

University2Business (U2B) is a network and recruiting event at the Cologne Business School. It makes it possible for companies and CBS students and its partner universities to contact each other within the scope of an annual two-day event. In addition to the recruiting and networking opportunities, this event aims to achieve sustainable networking and a fruitful, high-quality exchange of knowledge between the economy and the university.

In addition to the central case study competition, where students of various international universities work towards solutions to a real business challenge, U2B offers:

  • workshops
  • seminars
  • presentations from companies and selected speakers
  • one-on-one interviews.

U2B 2012

Under the motto "Sustainable growth", the Cologne Business School University2Business (U2B) team once again held a large network and recruiting event on the Cologne campus in February 2012. Numerous companies including Deutsche Post DHL, Fraport AG, Microsoft and Google introduced their companies and respective strategies for sustainable growth to the students in presentations and workshops.

The major attraction of the event was the Case Study Competition under the auspices of this year's Premium Partner, Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL). Five student teams from the CBS' international partner universities were given the task of optimising the DPDHL GoGreen Programme assuming a specific budget and time frame. The case study title: "Sustainable Growth Through Green Logistics." All five teams provided excellent results, clearly making it difficult for the DPDHL representatives to ascertain a winner. "We honestly had not reckoned with so many great ideas. We will take an abundance of new impulses into the company and will certainly implement many of them", says Michael Lohmeier, Senior Expert in the DPDHL GoGreen Department.

Finally the first two places were taken by the Maastricht School of Management (which came second) and the CBS Team (which won) with its "GoGreen blog“. The winners were bestowed their prizes in the impressive rooms of the Cologne Wolkenburg on the second evening. Moreover, both winners may also present their case studies again at the DPDHL headquarters.

University2Business 2012 was sponsored by ALDI Süd, who provided for the participants' food and beverages for the two days. Moreover, the U2B team financed the event with the prize money from the "Ethics and Sustainability Award" awarded to them last year by the Dr. Jürgen Meyer Foundation. The organisers donated surplus funds to the KIVA Association which supports people from developing countries with microloans.
